What is the biggest dip that a transiting planet can make?

Sorry for the newbie question but at what point do we say this is not a planet but a companion star? It's my impression that any dimming above ~5% is considered not a planet?

It depends on the radius of the star (and also various other complications such as blending). For a sun-like star 5% is not a bad guess. See my post here http://talk.planethunters.org/#/boards/BPH0000006/discussions/DPH0000yf3 and the link to Kian's planetary calculator.
