Why is this star freaking out?

This star appears to go through periodic bursts of very unusual, irregular shifts in starlight. They almost look like rapid pulsations and calm periods. Anybody have any idea what's going on with the star? Flares? Maybe sunspots appearing and disappearing on the surface? Diffuse clouds passing in front of it? Sneezing fits?
