KIC 8462852 - another idea I didn't see anyone mention

  • Zyzyzyryxy by Zyzyzyryxy

Just a thought after reading some popular science articles about KIC 8462852.
Did someone thought about a possibility that the strange dips aren't caused by something close to the star, but rather something that passed close to the telescope?
I might be wrong, but as far as I know the large, assymetrical dip was only observed once so far, so it would be possible that it was a one-time event that we are misinterpreting?

Oh well, probably found an answer myself in http://arxiv.org/pdf/1509.03622v1.pdf :
"We inspected light curves of neighboring sources and find that
they do not show similar variability patterns in their light curves"

Something close to the telescope would probably dim other stars too.

I'm new. I apologize for my potential etiquette broach, but has anyone proposed the idea of multiple planets in KIC 8462852's system creating transits simultaneously? Multiple planets in the same view-able elliptic/plane as the telescope, traversing the in front of the star simultaneously, could cause irregular dips of varying lengths. What if it is not just one planet, but several?
